The City of Burien and Burien Arts Commission is seeking a Black artist or artist group who will work with the Burien community to create a visual art piece that honors the Black Lives Matter movement. Artists or artist groups are invited to apply for up to $10,000 in project funding. Check out the Black Lives Matter Call for Artists (PDF) for criteria and submission guidelines. Project Goals: To invigorate and energize the Burien community through the arts. To have a Black artist or an artist
group that is led by a Black artist with a team of Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) artists and/or allies work with the community to honor the Black Lives Matter movement. To create a visual art piece that can be temporarily installed for at least one year, or permanent.
Eligibility: This call is open to both emerging and established professional, practicing artists residing in
Washington state. Burien and South King County artists are strongly encouraged to apply. The City is requesting
submissions from Black artists or an artist group led by a Black artist with a team of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous,
people of color) artists and/or allies. Artists(s) should be invested in Burien or have the ability to immerse
themselves in Burien culture and community to develop this project. Artists should have experience
collaborating with community.
